Mama is a Jerusalem Donkey, our Brown Mare. Although we don't know the full details of her life we do know that she is safe now. Mama's previous owner rescued her from a pretty rough situation, it took him a few years before she would allow him (or anyone) to touch her.
She is a beautiful work in progress, growing daily.
Eeyore is a Jerusalem Donkey, our Stud Grey. Eeyore came from a petting zoo and he has settled into life here quite nicely. He is a gentle soul, my favorite -- don't tell the others. His eyes, they pierce the soul, likely the reason he is loved by all. There is a softness about him, a quiet and calm.
He instantly eases your mind and your fears.
Ray, also a Jerusalem Donkey, and the son of Mama and Eeyore. Ray was the only animal born on the farm. He had a difficult start to life but luckily, thanks to Dr. Ray Novak at Virginia Tech, he has grown into the crowd favorite. Not a day goes by without someone calling his name from the greenway. Within moments of hearing "Ray, Ray-Ray!" he is off and running to greet his human friends and maybe snag a treat or two.
Raymond is our little miracle and the glue that holds us all together.
Peanut is an American Miniature Horse. She was one of just a few survivors of a barn fire (not at Our Someday Farms). Don't let her pint size fool you she is full of spunk. She loves a good butt scratchin' and will often go into Jackson's stall and do a little booty shake against his feeder. In addition to her spunky personality she is just a sweetheart and companion. She is a great listener and she will always accompany you on a slow walk around the farm.
Peanut, small but certainly mighty.
Jackson is an American Miniature Horse just like his farm sibling, Peanut. He is also one of the barn fire survivors. He is the goof ball of the pack. Have you ever tried taking a selfie with him? Such a character! Jackson loves his people and it shows by his attentiveness. He keeps us on track; checking our work in the barn and making sure everyone gets a treat before we leave - he takes the first of course. Those blue eyes though.. they are easy to get lost in.
Jackson, affectionately known as the 'Treat Charmer'.
Pebbles, a Dwarf Goat, and a part of the "Flinstones" (insert cheesy grin). This past weekend I listened to a mother explain to her daughter the name as she referenced her daily dose of chewables. Pebbles is skittish and only comes when you've got food, we are working on this.
Affectionately known as the Barn Diva with a pretty smile.
These two are Miniature Pot Belly Pigs, bet you didn't think "mini" meant "big". They also enjoy a good snack and love sun bathing. If you are walking the greenway you may just see them at the fence line greeting the passerby's with a gentle nod and a series of snorts and squeals.
The gentle giants in a "mini" package.
Blue is your typical Belgian Malinois. He is 5 going on 2, nothing seems to slow this big guy down. You may not catch him in the pasture but you may seeing him soaring through the air catching/chasing his frisbee in front of the house. Blue loves 3 things; his family, his bottles, and his frisbee.
Blue is by far the most loyal companion and best friend a girl could ask for. The true keeper of all my secrets.
Enzo is the youngest animal in the bunch and perhaps the cutest. He is an apricot Pug with a pink nose. He is a sun-dweller, porch life = best life. He has yet to meet a person he doesn't love and he will happily oblige a kiss or some snots if you are up for it. I believe he carries a piece of our Pug Trio in him, hence his name. (Think "Racing in the Rain").
Just like this farm, it was fate that we found Enzo.
Milo, a calico cat is a recent addition to the farm. He came from a very sheltered indoor cat life in a big city to a small town porch dwelling cat. He is a tease, he begs you to pet him and when you do he turns on a dime -- hiss.. He enjoys sunny days on the porch and baskets full of linens to snooze in. Milo has several friends on the farm, we can't name them all so we will just call them the 'Barn Cats'. Future folk, or rock band in the making.
From big city to small town porch dweller, he is living the life.
It started with a conversation at a bar about 4 goats looking for a new home due to their owners terminal illness. They were willing to split the up the goats but we couldn't bare the thought of that. So here they are. Meet (from left to right) Elsie Mae, Rascal Fats, Bo Jangles and Petunia. Our little Fab Four.
Sammy is a Halflinger, our blonde gelding. Sammy was once a pasture puff turned trail horse and now he is enjoying his retirement here on the farm. He is a gentle boy with the most amazing eye lashes. He is quickly becoming Eeyore's best bud, total opposites, but best buddies none the less.
